GhostHuntersFans.Net had a chance to interview the new GHI guy, Scott Tepperman in March of 2010. Below is our exclusive inteview.
Favorite Food? Italian. Favorite Book? Helter Skelter. Favorite Music Style / Musical Group? I love rap and techno. Huge fan of the Insane Clown Posse; I’m a die-hard Juggalo. Favorite Color? Black. Favorite Movie? The Exorcist, Friday the 13th films and Saw films. Favorite TV Show? Knight Rider and Reno 911! Favorite Inspirational Figure? Anyone who overcomes tremendous odds or limitations and anyone who helps animals. Favorite Sport? I only like the NFL for the New England Patriots. Been a fan for probably 20 years. I also like bowling (and karaoke!).
What is your past experience in the paranormal field? How were you introduced to it? I first became interested in the paranormal after becoming intrigued with the actual “Amityville Horror” case in Long Island, NY. Having visited the site several times, I began to learn more about the supposed claims of unexplained activity and became completely obsessed with the subject of hauntings and paranormal activity.I’ve been investigating the paranormal professionally for about 6 years. I moved to Tallahassee, FL in 2004 where I joined a local “ghost hunting” group. In 2008, after being their lead field investigator for nearly 5 years, I decided to launch my own group with another member from that team. ALPHA (www.alphaghostteam.com) was formed to help return the field of the paranormal to its roots: real, raw, responsible and straightforward investigations with no B.S. and no hidden agendas. ALPHA’s goal is to provide individuals with answers by thorough, detailed field work always provided free of charge. Our approach to the field has been well received, as ALPHA is now a very successful organization with a favorable reputation.
How did you become involved in GHI? I had always planned on trying to get onboard with TAPS or GHI since day one. In 2009, the other ALPHA co-founder and myself entered SyFy’s “Pair-anormal Contest” and actually were semi-finaled to the point that our contest submission was posted on the SyFy website. Since we apparently sparked the interest of someone over at the network, we decided that we would enter any and all contests in hopes that something would eventually stick. I entered the GHA / GHI casting call contest and everything took off from there.
Being a new member of the team, how were you received by the rest of the group? From the very second I met the rest of the GHI team, I felt like I was a part of the family. They were all great – very welcoming, down-to-earth and really on top of their game. These guys knew their stuff and were awesome about bringing me up to speed. Since then, everything has been a constant learning experience. We’ve also become good friends in the process.
What is your approach / mentality toward ghost hunting? Basically, three words: keep it real. Be true to yourself and true to others. Do a responsible, thorough and legitimate job and people will notice.
Do you have any hobbies besides ghost hunting? I LOVE karaoke – anything from Miley Cyrus to LL Cool J. I also am an avid horror movie enthusiast. I have a huge collection of underground horror movies and cult films. I also like bowling whenever I can find the time.
What do you want the paranormal field to achieve in the next 10 years? 20 years? I hope the field eventually expands to “full-immersion contact” (physical, emotional and mental) in hopes that we can be able to experience “face-to-face” an earthbound spirit on many different levels simultaneously. That would probably explain a lot. Right now, there are still many more questions than there are answers.
When you conduct a ghost hunt, what is the most rewarding part of the process? Learning more about myself and my skills as an investigator. Each investigation is very different and I am constantly re-evaluating my strengths and weaknesses. Quite often, you realize that you aren’t as strong in certain areas that you thought you were and you are stronger than you give yourself credit for in other ones.
What is the best perk of being a GHI team member? Being able to do what I absolutely love to do with the most knowledgeable, skilled investigators in the business. It sounds like I’m kissing up, but they are honestly the most intelligent and responsible group of paranormal researchers and investigators that I have ever had the honor to work alongside.
What is the most memorable investigation you have ever been on? In 2006, my former group and I were investigating the Old Jail in St. Augustine, FL when I was pulled on my forearm and yanked off a bench in the general population cell upstairs. Needless to say, I was freaked out. We caught the “attack” on film, but the quality was so bad, that we don’t want to post it. It’s now just basically for internal group use.
When will we see you on GHI? My episodes are set to premiere on SyFy this summer.
What would you tell any aspiring paranormal investigators out there? The field of the paranormal is a very extensive and tricky one. You need to immerse and dedicate yourself 100% to the cause. In order to stand out from the thousands of “ghost hunting” groups out there, you need to be real and responsible. You need to understand the limits of your own group, yourself and the scientific community as a whole – and be able to make up for any shortcomings in these areas. Approach each case as a unique situation, but be able to draw from your other experiences and learn from trial and error.
Imagine the possibilities of responsible ghost hunting. Imagine the contributions you could personally bring to the field.
